FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After two intense days The Arizona Cardinals wrapped up the week with a relaxed morning and afternoon.
Head coach Ken Whisenhunt surprised his team, ending Wednesday morning’s walk-through early and taking the Cardinals to go see a movie.
“It was something that had been planned a while in advance,” Whisenhunt said. “I didn’t know for sure if I was going to do it. It’s been a pretty tough week this week, as far as I treated them, and they practiced pretty well. We’ll see if they hold up their end of the bargain and see if it shows up Friday night.”
The Cardinals host the Oakland Raiders on Friday in their preseason home opener. Arizona’s struggles in preseason have been obvious. Kevin Kolb and John Skelton have not been able take control of the quarterback battle. The offensive line has failed in pass protection, a problem the Cardinals faced last year. And the defense has resembled the unit that struggle in the first half of the 2011 season, not the dominate unit that helped the Cardinals win seven of their past nine games.
“It’s about business,” Darnell Dockett said. “For the two games that would put on film, it was so disappointing. It’s not the way the Cardinals play. I guarantee we won’t play like that this week.”
